Attendance

When a student is unable to attend school, a parent needs to call the school at 870-4100.  In calling, leave the student's name, teacher's name, and reason for the absence.  A written note with the reason for the absence must be sent with the student the day that the student returns to school.

According to Wake County Public Schools policy #6000.3, an absence is excused for the following reasons:

Illness or injury which makes the student physically unable to attend school.
Isolations ordered by the State Board of Health or the Wake County Health Department.
  Death in the family.
Medical, dental, or other appointments with a health care provider approved in advance.
Court when a child is under subpoena.
Religious observance, as suggested by the religion of the student or the student's parents.
Participation in a valid educational opportunity, such as travel with prior approval, as documented on "Request for Excused Absence for Educational Reasons."  The request form should be submitted at least one week prior to the absence.

Students arriving to school after the 9:15 am tardy bell or leaving school before the 3:45 pm dismissal bell, must sign in or out at the office.  Students who arrive after 12:30 noon or leave before 12:30 noon will be counted as absent for that day.

When absences or tardies reach a level that may affect a child's academic progress, a letter is sent home.  According to WCPSS policy #6000.7, any student who accumulates more than 30 absences may be retained.  Good attendance is a priority, therefore, students with perfect attendance will be rewarded with a certificate at the end of the school year.
