Ms. Robin Phillips is our full-time school counselor.  She has over 20 years of experience in her field and has been at North Ridge for 16 years.  The primary goal of the school counselor is to promote success for all students by assisting with academic as well as personal and social development.  To achieve this goal Ms. Phillips provides the following services:

 

Develops and implements school-wide counseling programs.

 

Counsels students individually and in small groups with appropriate follow-up to monitor student progress.

 

Conducts classroom guidance sessions on personal and social growth, violence prevention, academic success, and career awareness.

 

Provides input into school curriculum planning.

 

Assists in the identification and educational planning of students with special needs and makes referrals to the appropriate school services or community agencies.

 

Consults with parents to assist them in understanding developmental issues, behavior management, and strategies for reinforcing the academic success of their students.

 

Interprets test information and cumulative records to parents.

 

Assists in orientation of new students, parents and staff.

 

Coordinates with the middle schools to assist in the transition of students to the new school.

 

Collaborates with, and makes referrals to, community agencies, support or interest groups, or tutors as needed.

 

Monitors attendance of all students.

 

Organizes and conducts school-wide activities such as Caught Being Good, Terrific Kids, Positive Action, and Character Education Programs.

 

Works closely with the PTA to organize parent education workshops or seminars.

 

Coordinates with the PTA to reward student achievement through the GEMS (Going the Extra Mile Students) program.
