FAQQ? How can a student become a Media Helper? A: Every fall we provide 4th and 5th grade teachers application forms for students who are interested in being a Media Helper for the school year. If you want to be a Media Helper, fill out the application form, have your parents sign it, and return it to your classroom teacher. After you return your Media Helper Contract you will receive training and begin work. Q? When are Book Fairs held? A: North Ridge Elementary PTA will sponsor a one week book fair, February 22-26, 2010. Q? When can students check out books? A: Students may check out books between the hours of 8:40 a.m. - 4:15 p.m. Classes schedule flex lessons to coordinate with units of study. Students in the primary grades are scheduled for classes once a week and may come more often if needed. The upper grades visit the media center in small groups during the day with teacher permission. If a student wants to check out a book between 8:40 a.m. - 9:05 a.m., the student must first report to the classroom teacher, then come to the media center. Q? When can students return books? A: If the whole class comes each child will check in his/her book. If no one is at the circulation desk books are to be returned on the labeled “Return Book Cart” located at the entrance of the media center. Q? I lost a book, what do I do now? A: Look around your house for another week. Look everywhere! If you really think it is gone forever, you should talk to the media staff about replacing the book. The media staff will give you a bill to take home, so your library account is clear. Q? I need to pay for a lost book. How do I do that? A: The media staff will provide you with a bill for the replacement cost. Bring a check made payable to "North Ridge Elementary" or exact cash along with the notice that was sent home. Let your teacher know you need to bring money to the media center to pay for your book. Q? What if the Media Center staff says I’ve lost a book, but I know I returned it? A: Talk to a media staff member. Together, we will look for the book. Sometimes books get reshelved before being scanned into the computer. Q? What time is the Media Center open? A: The Media Center is open to students from 8:40 a.m. -4:15 p.m. daily. Q? Can a parent check out books? A: Yes, parents can check books out. We may reserve the right to limit the number of books about a subject, so there will be availability for students. We have an excellent Wake County Public Library that provides wonderful selections. A link to the Wake County Public Library is at the bottom of each page of our website. Q? What is Book Swap? A: May is the month for Book Swap. Share the books you have read by exchanging books! If your home library bookshelves are full and you want to make room for new books, bring them to the media center to add to the book swap collection. We collect books for two weeks in May. Students receive 1 ticket for 1 book up to a maximum of 5. After books are collected and sorted by age groups, students exchange tickets for books. Students may donate more than 5 books. There is always a need for chapter books. Parents can donate books during the year. |
